No More Painkillers is a book that posits Haiti's problems as a set of diseases and the current attempts to combat them as painkillers. Painkillers, as we know, take care of effects. They do not tackle causes. Paul insists, throughout his book, that the best way to solve Haiti's problems is to remove their causes, not to apply well-intentioned but feeble measures that do nothing more than to create more problems.
