Notă biografică
Licensed psychotherapist, survivor of intangible childhood trauma herself -- ("been there, done that, got-the-T-shirt") --, long-time member of the New England Society for the Treatment of Trauma and Dissociation, and awarded inclusion in 2022 Marquis' "Who's Who in America," Patricia "Ricia" Fleming says, "For twenty years I provided mind-body-psychotherapy helping over 3,000 people hospitalized with chronic pain, depression, and PTSD reclaim their lives. "Yet even as a practicing therapist, when I compared my childhood to those filled with blatant physically-assaultive attachment traumas like beatings and incest, I felt I 'hadn't had it bad enough' to qualify for trauma healing. "Gradually I educated myself about myself, applying to my own challenges the concepts and treatment techniques I'd used with survivors of those blatant traumas. To my amazed delight, I started getting better. "In 'No Sticks or Stones,' I share with you what I've learned personally and professionally about meeting intangible trauma's unique challenges. "My heart soars when a reader says "'No Sticks or Stones' explained why I'm the way I am' or 'helped me accept myself and others in a way I never thought possible.'" Ricia Fleming, Ph.D. English Literature, triple-licensed as mental health counselor, certified social worker, and massage therapist, now draws on over 40 years of professional service as a therapist, educator, and hands-on healer promoting human well-being, with a special focus on healing trauma. She served as co-director of a college counseling center, clinician in private practice, and Committee Chair on the Executive Council of the Massachusetts Mental Health Counselors Association. She developed and delivered the "Beyond Coping" Vocational Achievement Program and manual, sold in women's bookstores and used by self-led women's groups throughout the US. With the American Cancer Society and the Massachusetts Dept. of Public Health, Ricia provided telephone consultations at the pioneering "Smokers' Quitline" telehealth program.
