Dr. Foard was an advocate of temperance and for education of former slaves and the poor. He published three editions of the text North America and Africa: Their Past, Present and Future and Key to the Negro Problem. This is an omnibus edition of those three texts. It also has a facsimile reprint of 'Umar ibn Said's manuscript given to Dr. Foard.
