In the United States one of the lesser known sources of obsidian is Glass Buttes in eastern Oregon. For several years late in the twentieth century and early in the twenty first century, an annual Workshop for flint and obsidian knappers of all skills from all over North America was hosted on the high slopes of Glass Buttes.
