Odyssey of a Marine Engineer 1886 to 1980

Autor Julie Quine Memorii de Quine, J. L.
en Limba Engleză Paperback
In 1906, Lt. Engineer Commander John Lindsay Quine (known as Dono) joined the Merchant Navy. Dono took his father's advice and noted his experiences of his life at sea, technical issues as well as humanistic stories - which he later recorded. Dono's memoirs include his earliest recollections, some fascinating insights into his life, a strange encounter in the Baltic, and change of career when, during World War II he returned to the Isle of Man and became a member of the Manx House of Keys. Whilst a member of the Keys, he was selected to represent the island at the New Zealand Parliamentary Association meetings, and once again recorded his epic journey. The elusive white shark is the subject of a later story... a close encounter The book amalgamates the stories in the two Amazon e-books: 'Odyssey of a Marine Engineer 1906 to 1918' and 'Marine Engineer to MHK 1919 to 1980'. *Over 1000 e-books downloaded* The book 'Odyssey of a Marine Engineer 1886 to 1980' is a companion book to 'Manx Brothers in Arms', which is compiled from the letters of Rev. Canon John Quine to Dono, and gives an insight into WWI from a father's perspective living in the Isle of Man, as well as noting the movements on the war fronts of Dono and his two brothers. Readers' comments: 'The stories give some vivid impressions of the times. I actually see Zeppelins and rough seas'. Dollin Kelly 'Some good stories of life at sea and on the island 100 years ago. Found the technical detail good - but not too in-depth'. Ben Corcoran
