Norman Wilson was an ordinary man living in extraordinary times. Although a physical disability prevented him from enlisting early in the American Civil War, he was finally accepted in 1864 as a Hundred Days Man. As part of Company H, 134th Illinois Infantry, he served in Northwestern Kentucky in an area known for secessionist guerrillas. Just when Norman thought he was headed home, his service was unexpectedly extended when he was called to help protect Missouri's capital. Filled with glimpses into the everyday life of a Hundred Day Man, this book provides a transcription of Norman's complete diary along with text that extends his narrative and images that illustrate his experiences. In addition, a biography of Norman Wilson and background information about the Hundred Days program is included.
