Ophrah's Gate

Autor Jim Lever
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Ophrah's Gate is a new age, locale adventure set in Israel. The story illuminates the wakes of devastation, which trail religious and cultural fanaticism. Extortion, treachery, even murders are all sanctioned in the mind of a fanatical millionaire determined to rescue the true church from disgrace. The plot revolves around an archaeological expedition in Israel and delves into the illegal trade in and forgery of antiquities.
Kirk Longstreet is a crestfallen, middle-aged stockbroker. Disgusted with corporate American corruption and the emptiness suffusing his own life, he abandoned his brokerage and is a volunteer on the Tel Kefar Archaeological Expedition. The expedition team is housed on a remote farming kibbutz in the Galilee. Kirk is assigned to room with a retired Roman Catholic priest, Father Bill Casey, who is given to spontaneous prophetic declarations. Kirk first considers the mystical old priest annoying but is also awed by his inexplicable insights and spiritual acuity. Professor Moshe Benjamin, the director of the expedition is called to Jerusalem to meet with a long time rival, Professor Niles Thompson. Thompson begs Moshe to listen to a theory about one of the temple treasures listed in the copper scroll of Qumran. Moshe agrees and allows Thompson to join the dig where he believes the treasure is located, beneath a stone in the old city's gateway.
While excavating in search of the treasure, a clay tablet with inscription naming several Biblical Characters is discovered. Now, or so it seems, Zionists finally have proof of the rightful claim to all of Israel -- and a major Christian denomination, proof of its pedigree.
