Our Blues Song

Autor Herb Jackson
en Limba Engleză Paperback
Our Blues Song embraces God, Love, Sex and the effects of war to chronicle the racial chasms in the United States during the fifties and sixties by following the journey of fraternal twins and their aunt, a struggling jazz singer. In the midst of Sit-ins and segregation, Dr. King's peace marches, and violence against police-the color lines are drawn and redrawn in personal and political arenas. The two boys, and then men, along with their country, are forced to face who they are. One brother fights in Vietnam, while the other joins a black militant group. In the novel's culminating scenes, the now Vietnam Vet goes undercover to try and free his twin from prison, a mission he is willing to undertake at any cost. The story weaves in the boys' Alabama upbringing, the battlefields of Vietnam, and the streets of Chicago and Oakland. The characters speak in the language of the times, lest we forget how far we have come. Historical figures are accurately depicted within a fictional, though realistic, context as the effects of misguided events and twisted rites of passages fall on a family that discovers what courage, love, and forgiveness truly mean.
