Out of the Blue and the other short stories chronicle the life of a middle aged man struggling to find balance in his life as a father of five and an immense love for being outdoors. Jake goes through the valley that we must all travel at sometime, it's that valley that lies somewhere between youth and death. It's that point at which Jake realizes his mortality and begins to search for answers as to why he is here. He relives many fond memories from his past and tries to calm his soul at the thought that his end is near.
