Parables and Poems is an anthology of short pieces, some of which are featured in other works by Pat Stevens, but are included here to strengthen various points of view expressed by the author. The pieces range from brief humorous essays, to longer satirical articles, which cover the spectrum of problems confronting the world today. The author has attempted to sequence all the articles, so the content of each compliments the previous, in order to create an interlinking theme. The articles are followed by eight of the authors poems, and a list of favourite books local and international, that have influenced his writing. Then comes a light hearted thrust at South African sport, which due to the interference of the press, is a heavy hearted subject. Disparagement of the liberal press permeates all books by Pat Stevens, for the author believes that liberalism is impractical, and the liberals have caused great harm. Cricket is an example of this, the liberal press engineered the abandonment of the Springbok emblem and ever since, Protea cricket has never won a world cup while the rugby Springboks have won two. The book ends with a section on religion and faith, where the Catholic religion takes some heavy stick, and the author introduces the novel concept of Old Earth Creationism. Creation versus evolution is always a hot topic so Pat Stevens weighs in, and surely everybody wants to know the Meaning of Life.
