Recenzii
McAleer sets his tone as earnest but not unamused.
Passion's Fortune treads a nice line between readability and scholarship. Joseph McAleer has found a rich vein and mined it profitably to give us a good book about bad books.
not only an unofficial history of English cultural fashion from the Great War to the death of Princess Diana, but also an absorbing and well researched account of a successful publisher as far removed from the self-regarding world of 'literary London' as it is possible to imagine ... exemplary study.
hugely entertaining history of the firm.
a hefty and scrupulous footnoted historical volume detailing the every move of the publishing company during the first century of its existence.
