This book was written by a veterinary pathologist with an unlimited curiosity directed at the mechanisms of a disease studied in animal models. Despite its evidently ancient origin and distinct presentation; the paralysis, urinary incontinence, and the lack of improvement in motor and sensory deficits, the pathogenesis of the spinal cord injury (SCI) remained poorly understood. This unacceptable ignorance persisted despite vigorous research efforts in the field of SCI mandated by increased public awareness in the last few decades. The lack of understanding of the pathogenesis of SCI, the traumatic brain injury (TBI) and stroke has maintained a peculiar conundrum where the most important group of incurable diseases in medicine combined with a very high cost of medical care persisted well into the 21st century. This book seeks to open the door for the medical and scientific fields to a better understanding of the pathogenesis of neurotrauma and stroke with anticipated effective treatments for tens of millions of patients every year.
