This study aims at re-evaluating the traditional Igbo conception and practice of peace and the doctrines of Pope John Paul II. By using an expository and evaluative approach, the author concludes that the Pope's teachings and pronouncements remain relevant in the life and experiences of Igbo Christians. This is a work which Western audiences will find informative and which will provide hope and inspiration for African readers whose lives are touched daily by the havoc of violence and war. The human need for peace, wholeness, love, and an encounter with the Sacred are characteristics that transcend individual cultures. Thus, all readers from all lands can recognize for themselves a role in the cause for peace and harmony for humankind.
