Recenzii
“Beautifully clear and endlessly informative, this atlas provides a fascinating yet sobering picture of the changing nature of the United Kingdom’s population."
"Like other appealing cartographic works from Policy Press, such as The Social Atlas of Europe, this new release offers a dizzying array of colorful cartograms and graphs and a concise, informative text that presents detailed information drawn from Great Britain's 2011 Census of Population and Housing. Dorling and Thomas note that advances in technology have resulted in more precise information gathering and presentation. . . . These results of thorough research are presented in a comfortable, accessible style that makes palatable what could have been a dry recitation of material. The resource will be useful for those in a number of fields of study who follow demographics of the United Kingdom. Highly recommended."
“Dorling and Thomas’s narrative helps the reader navigate the changing landscape of society effectively, highlighting interesting points and emphasizing those areas which have seen the most change or continuity.”
"A superb and utterly fascinating insight into what our country actually looks like, and how it's changing. Both authors brilliantly and meticulously dissect society. A must if you want to understand modern Britain."
"Using their trademark maps—hallucinatory visions that properly reflect populations—the authors tell us about the distribution of everything from wealth to same-sex couples, and what changes have occurred in recent years. An extraordinary and graphically gripping resource."
"The great value of the book is that in an era where expertise can be casually dismissed and where facts can be treated with disdain, it supplies the necessary tools to combat many misconceptions within much contemporary public discourse."
"This is a brilliantly informative overview of UK society today, highlighting not only important national changes and trends but also the 'who' and 'where'. It should be a starting point for any discussion of social policy."
"A fascinating work."
“Drawing on the 2011 [UK] census and other data, the book uses maps, graphs, and commentary to offer a comprehensive view of a nation undergoing rapid change. Gender, faith, employment, and ethnicity feature in the new, third edition of the atlas, which has the academic heft required by policy makers, while remaining accessible to any keen people watcher.”
