Percy Keese Fitzhugh (1876 - 1950) From the beginning, Americans loved the idea of Boy Scouting. During the 4 years following its inception, the membership of the Boy Scouts swelled 400%. Many authors of boys' fiction, hoping to cash in on this excitement, produced several series with Scouts as central characters. The problem was that these books often did not reflect the Boy Scouts' program or mission. There was one author who changed all that. He was a staunchly patriotic American, a lover of literature, and one of the most prolific authors of boys' fiction; far and away the leader in the world of Scouting based stories. No other Boy Scout author, then or now has ever come close to matching his output or popularity. It is safe to say that many thousands of boys joined the Scouts because of this one man's writings. And now, over eighty years later, he still has fans, they refer to him affectionately as PKF. This is his story. . .
