Pharmacological evaluation of Cyprus essential oil

Natural products have been important resources for the maintenance of life since ages: Natural products are becoming increasingly important as alternative medicines. Medicinal plants have an important therapeutic role in treatment of many human illnesses and have been source of medicines. There is increasing demand by the patients to use natural products with gastric ulcer, wound healing and diarrhea activities. The side effect of allopathic and synthetic compound had promoted research into herbal and natural products. As alternative to other approaches, scientific research on plants used in traditional medicine is receiving growing interest as a way of identifying new agent and the survey of literature reveals that the medicinal plants of Cyprus species is found to be used in ulcer, wound and diarrhea. The result of the present study indicates that Cyprus essential oils showed significant anti ulcer, wound healing, antimicrobial and anthelmintic activities, which supports the use of whole plant in traditional medicine to treat ulcer, wound healing and diarrhea.
