Sex, love and relationships become important needs to almost all of us. James Macallan, handsome, talented, charming and soon to be successful has an excess of all three needs. Set in the UK from the 1950s to the 1990s, 'Philanderer' examines how he uses each of them, individually and in combination. From his first sexual and emotional encounters in his youth, to his handling of marriage, divorce, separation and affairs, James moves through life seemingly in full control but really as a victim of his weaknesses in resisting women. It is as much about the emotions and actions of the women in his life as it is about the philandering of this gifted male. The consequences of infidelity may be obvious but in 'Philanderer' such assumptions are questioned. Love and pain are partners; sex and responsibility are strangers but joy and happiness come through to reward those who have suffered from being in James' life. Does James learn and benefit from these experiences or is he destined to remain a philanderer - popular and lonely?
