Philippe de Mezieres was a man of adventure, fighting wars in Italy, France and against the Turks. After his pilgrimage to the Holy Land, he was a chancellor in Cyprus before settling in Venice. He later counseled Charles V of France and served as tutor for the future Charles VI before retiring to the Celestine convent in Paris. Philippe de Mezieres received a revelation that would guide his life while praying at the Holy Sepulcher: a new chivalric order, the Passion of Jesus Christ, dedicated to liberating the Holy Land. He rewrote the order's rules many times, sending them to kings and noblemen in France and England, the last time after the disaster of Nicopolis, proposing his "medicine" for the ails of Christendom: the Order of the Passion.
