Dr. George E. Georghiou is Director of FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy and Leader of PV Technology, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Cyprus. Prior to this, he was University Lecturer and Undergraduate Course Leader in Electrical Engineering at the University of Southampton. Having graduated from the University of Cambridge with a B.A., M.Eng., M.A. (1996) all with distinction, and a Ph.D. (1999), Dr. Georghiou continued his work at the University of Cambridge in the capacity of Research Fellow(1999–2002). Dr. Georghiou is currently Member of the Cyprus Energy Policy Council, the CENELEC, and IEC committees on PV. He is also acting as Expert Evaluator for Horizon 2020 energy proposals, as well as being Member of CIGRE and the European Solar Energy Industrial Initiative. In addition, he also represents Cyprus on the SET plan steering committee, the European Mirror Group on Photovoltaics, andsits on the board of the recently established Cyprus Energy Agency. Dr. Georghiou has published over 300 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, and his team has obtained research funding in excess of 10 million Euros.
Dr. George Makrides is currently Quality Manager of the PV Technology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Cyprus in 2012 and his M.Phil. degree in Engineering at Cambridge University in 2004, where he also received the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust scholarship.
Dr. Maria Hadjipanayi is currently Postdoctoral Research Scientist and Research Project Manager at the PV Technology Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Cyprus. She received her B.Sc. in Physics (2001) from the University of Cyprus and her D.Phil. (Ph.D.) in Condensed Matter Physics (2006) from the University of Oxford.
Alexander Phinikarides is currently Technical Manager of the PV Technology Laboratory of the University of Cyprus. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cyprus in 2007, where he earned the award for the Best Undergraduate Senior Design Project. He then went on to gain his M.Sc. in Microelectronic Systems Design from the University of Southampton in 2008.

This textbook provides students with an in-depth view of photovoltaic (PV) technology and fills the gap that exists in system focused PV literature. It does this by focusing on the physical and operational features of PV at the cell, module, and system level.
In addition, this book also focuses on new topics associated with the development of PV technology, including recent advances in design and integration. It includes many illustrations and demonstrations off practical, everyday applications of these advances from around the world.
