Political Communication in Egypt

Autor Saad Hamza
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 5 dec 2012
This book attempted to answer the question: how does agenda-setting work in a country like Egypt? By looking at the most prominent issues in the media coverage in the main Egyptian media and the ranking of the most important issues in the public consciousness. It aims to bring to attention the dynamics of agenda-setting in third world countries-countries that have different economic, social and political contexts. It presents a further step towards understanding the intricacies of agenda-setting when applied to the quasi-democracies of some third world countries. The book addressed four main objectives. These objectives are exploring the salient issues in the Egyptian media and the extent to which national and opposition media differ or agree; investigating the public agenda within the research sample that receives attention during a particular period and the relative salience of these public issues; examining the differences and similarities between the Egyptian media agenda and its public agenda within the research sample over the period of the study, and identifying the intermediary variables that influence the Egyptian media in setting the public agenda.
