One of the major problems facing the educational system in the United States is the widespread inequity in educational achievement and opportunity across ethnic and socioeconomic groups. On a variety of measures, such as standardized tests, advanced placement tests, achievement tests, boys especially African American, have lower levels of achievement. One of the greatest challenges of educators today is helping young boys of color. These challenges vary because of racism, classism, poverty, divorce, parenting, low self-esteem, lack of self-identity, violence, gangs and peer pressure etc. The answer to helping boys, especially African American lies in taking a holistic approach to solving their social, emotional and academic needs. This book comprises innovative character education rhymes, empowerment strategies, creative engaging counseling strategies, out of the box parental involvement strategies, character building techniques, empowerment counseling program development and parenting strategies.
