Poverty, Hunger and Exploitation in Indian English Novels

Autor Nagesh Nalawade
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 5 iul 2013
The present research is an attempt to explore the delineation of the themes of poverty, hunger and exploitation in the novels of Mulk Raj Anand, Bhabani Bhattacharya and Kamala Markandaya, the three important contributors to the tradition of Indian English Novels.Educated under the western liberal system of education, nourished by the Indian spiritualism and guided by the Gandhian philosophy, all the three disclose their faith in the basic goodness of man. They believe that if the sense of compassion and love accompany the sense of fair justice, if there is honesty of mind prevailing with the sincerity of purpose, the poverty, hunger and exploitation will be eradicated from the earth. The irrational orthodoxy, the shackles of superstitions and the confusion of faiths also appear to be some of the undercurrents of the Indian society.
