""Profane is an annual print and audio journal featuring an eclectic mix of poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction.

We appreciate writing that has movement, writing which, as it progresses, delves into the nuances and complications of the spaces it explores. We're particularly interested in work that is able to confront and subvert our perceptions of the world in which we live.
We're keen on celebrating writers who present us with challenging material. Writing that is surprising or difficult, intellectually and emotionally, in even small, subtle ways, has the potential to leave the reader different as a result. To possess that potential is our definition of 'good writing.' And ultimately, good writing, whatever form it takes, is what we're after.
It should be said that with any content we publish, it's not our goal to offend. But ideally, we'd like the writing we publish to meet readers in their uncomfortable places, to provoke conversations worth having. With that aspiration in mind, we believe there is no subject too taboo for exploration."
