An experiment in every respect comparable to the best contemporary international examples of sustainable districts, such as BedZED in Beddington and the Vauban neighbourhood in Freiburg im Breisgau, the Ecoparc district developped in Neuchâtel by Bauart Architects is emerging as an exemplary model of regeneration of a disused railway area. A first book on the Ecoparc district was published when the Tower of the Swiss Federal Statistical Office was completed in 2004. The construction of educational facilities (the Neuchâtel Music Conservatoire and the School of Business Administration) in the eastern sector of the site prompted the project of putting out a second book on the district. The author is Bruno Marchand, Professor at the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne and internationally reputed architecture critic. The publication is illustrated with exclusive photographs by Yves André and Ruedi Walti.
