Mr. Waite was a career member of the Wisconsin Rapids Fire Department (WRFD) for over 26 years. He held the positions of firefighter/paramedic, fire marshal, training officer, paramedic director, fire investigator, fire inspector, operations director, and retired as the fire chief in 2011.
Mr. Waite started his military career by signing up to join the United States Marine Corps (USMC) when he was 17 years old, and he spent six years on active duty as an enlisted Marine. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the USMC, Mitch joined the United States Army Reserve and spent the next 36 years in the Army Reserve (16 years) and Wisconsin Army National Guard (20 years), finally retiring as a Colonel after 42 years of military service in May 2017. This 42-year career included 14 years as an enlisted member and a combat medic. He also spent 13 of the 42 years on active duty. His last assignment was that of Acting Division Commander for the 86th Training Division, Fort McCoy, WI. He was also deployed to Operation Iraqi Freedom with the 416th Theater Engineer Command in 2008/2009 and received a Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Iraqi War Medal with two campaign stars, and his unit received the Joint Meritorious Unit Award.
Dr. Waite earned his doctoral degree from Walden University in Applied Management and Decision Sciences with a specialization in Leadership and Organizational Change.
Dr. Waite is also the founder and President of the Double Diamond Leadership Authority, LLC which specializes in leadership development and training (www.doublediamondleadership.org).
Dr. Waite has also authored five non-fictional books, Fire Service Leadership - Theories and Practices (2008); The EMS Leadership Challenge - A Call To Action (2009); 400 Days - A Call To Duty (2010); It's All About Leadership (2016); and Essential Leadership Characteristics for Effective Leaders: Cracking the Code? (2020).
