The landscape of ethnological museums is in motion - and more than ever. Renamings, the development of new overall approaches, the reconception of numerous special exhibitions - in particular the programmatic alignment of special exhibitions, interdisciplinary co-operations, collaborations with so-called »source communities« - as well as conflicts around jurisdiction and interpretation in the struggle over the definition of disciplinary concepts, are all having an effect. How are ethnological institutions dealing with the different and sometimes irreconcilable expectations of different interest groups? This volume illuminates some central themes in these debates and puts current collection and exhibition concepts up for discussion.
