Quonset Point, Naval Air Station: Images of America

Autor Sean Paul Milligan
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 29 feb 1996
The United States Naval Air Station, Quonset Point,
RI, originally built as a Neutrality Patrol Seaplane
Base, eventually became a unique and fundamentally
important asset to the American armed forces. In
World War II, more than one half of all U-boats sunk by
U.S. aviation--including the first two--were destroyed
by Quonset-trained shore and carrier-based squadrons.
In the years following World War II, Quonset remained
a premier industrial naval air station, sending squadrons
or overhauling equipment for use in the Korean,
Vietnam, and Cold War conflicts. For thirty-four years
and through four wars, the Quonset Point Naval Air
Station stood proud and tall on behalf of the United
States military.

Notă biografică

Sean Paul Milligan is a well-known military historian and speaker whose articles have appeared in the Providence Journal and Naval Aviation News. In this, the very first publication devoted entirely to the history of the Quonset Point Naval Air Station, Mr. Milligan presents extensive and detailed coverage of the installation's achievements and activities during the entire period of its service to the United States military. The author's dedicated and sincere interest in Quonset Point is evident throughout, and the book pays a wonderful tribute to the men and women who supported the naval air station during its period of active duty.
