Herrick Chapman is Professor at the Institute of French Studies at New York University. His books include State Capitalism and Working-Class Radicalism in the French Aircraft Industry; European Society in Upheaval: Social History Since 1750 (with Peter N. Stearns); and The Social Construction of Democracy, 1870-1990 (edited with George Reid Andrews).Laura L. Frader is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of History at Northeastern University. Her books include Peasants and Protest: Agricultural Workers, Politics, and Unions in the Aude and (edited with Sonya O. Rose) Gender and Class in Modern Europe.
