Radiophonies: Performance Ideas

In this new work from PAJ Publications' Performance Ideas series, Whitehead makes theoretical and historical inquiries into the nature of radiophonic space, which he calls "the big sloppy." He explores the fate of the "schizophonic" voice, while using radio to explore some of the deep undertones within the American Dream machine. Featured in the volume are selections from an extensive archive of radio plays, voice castaways, and acoustic adventures written, performed, and directed by Whitehead.
Gregory Whitehead is a widely admired radio artist who has created more than one hundred radio plays, essays and acoustic adventures for the BBC, Radio France, NPR and other broadcasters. Whitehead is co-editor (with Douglas Kahn) of the influential volume, Wireless Imagination: Sound, Radio, and the Avant-garde.
