Reading Revelation: A Thematic Approach

Autor W. Gordon Campbell
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 iun 2012
In 'Reading Revelation: A Thematic Approach', Gordon Campbell leaves aside traditional investigation of the Book's original life setting to concentrate, instead, on exploring the rich and complex narrative world which this first-century document itself creates. Presupposing that the Book is coherent, Campbell resolutely regards Revelation as its own best interpreter. In this innovative study he takes the reader on several guided tours of the Book's integrative theological themes - all of them shaped by the logic of parody and antithesis - as well as providing a detailed and valuable index of the many motifs, large or small, which are encountered en route. Throughout, Campbell also correlates Revelation with the Scriptures as a whole, with which it is in constant dialogue. Originally published in French in 2007, this unique contribution to Revelation scholarship was translated into English by the author: demanding yet accessible, 'Reading Revelation' offers specialists, clergy and other readers important strategies for engaging with the New Testament's most challenging Book. A Presbyterian minister, Gordon Campbell is Professor of New Testament Studies at Union Theological College, Belfast, and currently Assistant Director for undergraduate affairs in the Institute of Theology at Queen's University. The Book of Revelation is his special interest and has been the subject of much of his published work to date.
