Notă biografică
Brian Wright-McLeod (Dakota-Anishnabe), is a music journalist, radio broadcaster and author of The Encyclopedia of Native Music and executive producer of the 3-CD companion box set The Soundtrack of a People [EMI Music Canada]. He began working as a music journalist in 1979 and continues to write articles and reviews on Native music for numerous publications. With diplomas in graphic design and journalism, he expanded into radio in 1985 at CKLN 88.1 FM, Toronto where he created several Native radio programs that focused on music, current events, culture and history of Native people. Additionally he has produced programs for CBC Radio, BBC and Sirius Satellite Radio. His work in the music industry includes serving as Chair for the Aboriginal Music category for the Juno Awards (Canadian Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) from 2000 to 2004 and co-Chair from 1998 to the present. Mr. Wright-McLeod also assisted in establishing the Native category for the Grammy Awards. For many years, he worked as a Native music consultant for film and television programs. An eclectic and successful creator, his paintings and visual work has exhibited throughout the world. His life-long work in music culminated in the creation of the Native Music Research Institute, a library and archive of Native music and culture. His first graphic novel, Red Power, began many years ago and is based on his own experiences, knowledge and exposure to the historical events that inspired the book.
