We are indebted to the Gospel of Luke for the three simple words, Remember Lot's wife. It was in the course of his instruction on the Day of the Son of Man that Jesus urged his listeners to do precisely that: Remember Lot's wife, adding at once, Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will save it. The meditations in this book, written the style of Lectio Divina, endeavor to illustrate Jesus' admonition in a variety of ways. Beginning with familiar passages from the Old Testament and working his way through the New, Abbot Martin (1914-2003) brings his considerable experience and expertise to unveiling the hidden meaning of the Word of God in such a way as to help its immediate application.
