Notă biografică
Shirley was born in Shanghai, China in the late 1960s amidst the Cultural Revolution. After China adopted the Open-Door policy, she received a college and business school education and worked as a nurse, pharmaceutical sales representative, market researcher, and pharmaceutical product marketing manager. She later immigrated to the United States after marrying her American husband. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2014. She had her first episode of mental illness at the age of 21 and was later diagnosed as having bipolar I disorder with psychotic features. She has had a few relapses of her mental illness throughout her life and was hospitalized three times. Her condition is well-managed at present, under the care of her psychiatrist. She lives with her husband and two teenage sons in central New Jersey. She is a nationally certified medical interpreter and has been working as a remote medical interpreter, helping Mandarin speaking patients with limited English proficiency overcome language and cultural barriers, for over five years. Shirley is resilient and hardworking, and she is grateful for the family and friends who have been supportive throughout her life. She can be reached by email at: shirley.wang.nj@gmail.com.
