Notă biografică

Shirley was born in Shanghai, China in the late 1960s amidst the Cultural Revolution. After China adopted the Open-Door policy, she received a college and business school education and worked as a nurse, pharmaceutical sales representative, market researcher, and pharmaceutical product marketing manager. She later immigrated to the United States after marrying her American husband. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2014. She had her first episode of mental illness at the age of 21 and was later diagnosed as having bipolar I disorder with psychotic features. She has had a few relapses of her mental illness throughout her life and was hospitalized three times. Her condition is well-managed at present, under the care of her psychiatrist. She lives with her husband and two teenage sons in central New Jersey. She is a nationally certified medical interpreter and has been working as a remote medical interpreter, helping Mandarin speaking patients with limited English proficiency overcome language and cultural barriers, for over five years.
