Revolt: Revolution and Counterinsurgency in the Ancient World: General Military

Autor Michael Kegerreis
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 31 dec 2034
The style of warfare made famous by Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam and by the Soviets in Afghanistan can be traced right back to the earliest days of recorded human conflict. In his first book, military historian Michael D. Kegerreis considers ancient battles in light of recent military standoffs. From the Aetolian Campaign of Demosthenes in 426 BC to the counterinsurgency operations fought by Alexander the Great, Kegerreis examines the guerilla tactics employed by ancient insurgents and the actions, often brutal, taken to put them down. Drawing comparisons with the modern era, the book reveals how the tactics and methodology employed--including flying columns, guerrilla warfare, and hit and run--were as prevalent in the ancient world as they are today. Students of history as well as contemporary military planners will welcome this thoughtful re-presentation of the historical record.
