Notă biografică
John Charles is a reference librarian at the Scottsdale Public Library in Arizona. With Shelley Mosley he is the coauthor of The Suffragists in Literature for Youth: The Fight for the Vote (2006). He is also one of the authors of The Mystery Readers' Advisory: The Librarian's Clues to Murder and Mayhem (2002).Shelley Mosley holds a BS in Education from Grand Canyon University and an MLS from the University of Arizona. She is presently an adjunct faculty member at Glendale Community College, and has managerial experience in both public and school libraries. She is the author of Romance Today: An A-to-Z Guide to Contemporary American Romance Writers (Greenwood, 2006), The Suffragists in Literature for Youth: The Fight for the Vote (2006), and The Complete Idiot's Guide to the Ultimate Reading List(2007).

As the romance genre grows in popularity and romance writers become more prolific, this work provides needed and hard to come by information for more than a hundred contemporary romance authors. The authors were chosen for the quality of their work and their prominence in the field. A full spectrum of romance genres, from Regencies to time travel romances, are represented by these authors. The bio-bibliographic essays in the volume are mainly based on statements provided by the authors themselves. The essays give us a glimpse into the rich and diverse backgrounds of the writers themselves. Each essay also strives to analyze the author's significant works and give an overall view of the style and format. This work fills a major need and will be of use for librarians, scholars, and general readers of romance.
Contemporary romance writers don't get much respect, and they don't get much coverage in literary or biographical resources, either. This guide is an attempt to rectify the situation. More than 100 contemporary American romance writers have brief (one to four pages) biographies with a survey of their writings to date. Bibliographies contain lists of writings both under their own names and pseudonyms through the date the book was compiled plus anything the author wrote on romance writing. Many entries include portraits..The work is alphabetical by the author's name or pseudonym, and the essays are brisk and informative. There are a detailed index as well as an appendix of additional resources. Public libraries with active readers'-advisory programs will find this very useful, as will academic libraries teaching courses in genre fiction.
