Rousing... the Sleeper

Autor Opie, Frank Contribuţii de Schuil, Maureen
en Limba Engleză Paperback
The title of this book suggests that someone who should be wide awake is sleeping during a time of danger and impending crisis. Looked at from an environmental context, perhaps the sleeper is in all of us to one degree or another. We are sleeping and so part of the problem or awake and aware and hopefully part of the solution. Consider these household words that no longer surprise us - population explosion, mass migration, global warming, super cyclones, floods and droughts, desertification, deforestation, melting ice caps and rising sea levels. Is that a problem on a global scale or not? We have all read the gloomy forecasts as these were major media themes not very long ago. But I believe that we are awakening to our peril so failure to cope is not the focus of this book. We can engage our common problems co-operatively. In fact it is the only way as these problems do not recognize international borders. We have chosen to focus on values building to maintain an inspirational tone which motivates responsibility, caring and commitment. So we prefer to face a changing future with hope, believing that together we can change the future for the benefit of generations of children who will inherit our world. We have addressed this conceptually around five themes: 1. Imagination, vital to motivation. 2. Sensory awareness, waking up to our shared problems . 3. Exploration and discovery, asking the right questions at the right time. 4. Adventure challenges, character building through values that celebrate life. 5. But does it work?, measuring values practically. We are confident that this book will become one of your most treasured possessions as you read and use it and give it to others as a gift investment in their changing futures.
