Prayers Ashore completes the series Sacred Moments, Prayers of a Navy Chaplain at Sea and Ashore. It focuses on shore assignments beginning with seven years in the Inactive Reserves at the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve Center, Lexington, KY and continues with duty with Marines of First Force Service Group, Camp Pendleton, Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, Washington, the Chapel of Hope, Yokosuka, Japan and concludes with Navy related experiences in retirement. It answers the question the author was often asked, "Why did you become a Navy Chaplain" especially when it was known that the author was a tenured full professor when the decision was made. It contains also a presentation on Ministry at Sea initially made to religious leaders in Japan helping them gain greater understanding of this unique form of ministry. There is also a copy of the wedding ceremony which the Chaplain used throughout his naval career. It will no doubt evoke memories for some readers of their life in the Navy or Marine Corps. For persons without such experience it should help provide a basic understanding of what a Navy Chaplain does in a variety of assignments at sea and ashore.
