Savannah to Sweetwater is the story of survival and redemption. Set in the old South on the eve of the 1860 elections it is the story of Rachel and Andrew and the love they both tried to deny. Rachel, a daughter of the old South, clings with myopic tenacity to the past bringing her into conflict with the man who loves her and wants to rescue from her prison of bitterness and regret. When Andrew Meredith's conscience forces him to confront the evils of his time, he must choose between what is expedient and what is right. Further complicating their relationship is Andrew Meredith's mysterious attachment to the beautiful woman of color, Daphne Delucie. What Meredith decides forces him to encounter danger, financial ruin and alienates the woman he loves. Savannah to Sweetwater is a tale of intrigue, conflict and romance played out against the backdrop of the cataclysmic turmoil ushering in the Civil War.

Some have suggested that Southern Author Doris English's historical tales of romance and intrigue fill the vacant niche that best loved author Eugenia Price has left. A graduate of West Georgia University, with a degree in history and a minor in journalism, her interest and her residence in North Georgia, rife with Civil War battlefields, lend vital credence to the tales she spins. When intrigue and history combine with well-defined characters and a complex plot, she finds a story irresistible. From her heart she creates characters that live and breathe who face and overcome barriers that would destroy their happiness. Her multi faceted characters experience the joy of achievement, the pain of disappointment and the thrill of connecting against a backdrop of a fast moving tales consisting of intrigue and adventure. Her historical facts prove authentic while never impeding the flow of the narrative thus making her reader become one with both characters and events. One of her previous endeavors is series, Sweetwater Legacy, set in the environs of Cobb and Douglas Counties, in Georgia at the Sweetwater Creek site of the New Manchester Mills. Beginning in the year just prior to the presidential election of 1860, the three novels proceed through the war years and shortly beyond with the second book concluding with Sherman's orders to arrest and transport women and children from their homes at the mill north to Indiana.
