Scandinavian Historic Inns

While the locations and accommodations may vary, the inns do share one common characteristic: a long, rich history. Most of the inns listed are at least one hundred years old, and some are even several hundred years old.

The very first inn in Denmark, Bromolle Kro, is said to have been built in 1198. Travelers today may stay in this very same inn and enjoy the traditional Danish fare from its kitchen or see the "oldest tree in Denmark" in the garden.

A relative newcomer is the Grand Hotel in Stockholm, built in 1874. This upstart has made up for lost time by being named "Third Best Hotel in the World" by Euromoney Magazine for the the past two years. Many Nobel Prize winners and their families have stayed here.

In addition, Norway's fjellstue (mountain cabins) offer clean, warm places to spend the night for weary travelers today, just as they did in the time of the Vikings.

Now, travelers to Sweden, Denmark, and Norway will fully appreciate the importance of their Scandinavian historic inns.
