Schudy, P: Oldest Daughters

en Paperback – 30 mar 2017
"Birth order is a fact, not a fate"(TM) Author Patricia Schudy realized this while interviewing more than 100 oldest daughters, siblings, and spouses about the role of first-born daughters within a family. She repeatedly heard, "I want to know I'm not the only one out there feeling this way." The book shares personal stories and explores the possibilities for changing birth-order "fate." The author includes her own experiences along with the results of an online survey of several hundred random family members. At the end of each of ten conversational-style chapters contributing psychologist Dr. Kristin Russell offers self-help suggestions for personal growth and transforming sibling and family relationships. Chicago artist Ann Marie Greenberg's book cover expresses the joy and the burdens of being an oldest daughter-willingly tethered to her family and forging her own path. 'Oldest Daughters: What to know if you are one or have ever been bossed around by one" provides a fresh perspective on family relationships and feminism.

Notă biografică

Patricia Schudy is a former nationally syndicated, youth-advice columnist (Universal Press Syndicate/Andrews McMeel) and a free-lance writer of more than 200 bylined features. Her articles have appeared in regional and national publications including Better Homes and Gardens /Meredith Publications, the Kansas City STAR Magazine and the National Catholic Reporter. She is a graduate of Mt. St. Scholastica College (now Benedictine College) with a B.A. in English and is a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi), Colorado Independent Publishers Association (CIPA), and the Northern Colorado Writers Association. The oldest child in her family-of-origin's five siblings, she learned through research that most of the studies about first-born children had focused on males. But what about oldest females? That question led to the writing and publication of Oldest Daughters: What to know if you are one or have ever been bossed around by one. The author is the mother of five adult children, the grandmother of eight, and currently blogs at www.oldestdaughter.com. "Relationships are integral to who I am and what I choose to write about."
