Notă biografică
Alan A. D. Cohen was born in England in the first half of the 20th Century. From early childhood, he had an intense interest in both science and the mysterious worlds of mind and spirit. In pursuit of scientific knowledge, he graduated from the Imperial College of Science and Technology, London University. Thereafter he worked in industrial research, and educational filmmaking. Around thirty five, and motivated by his continuing search for spiritual awareness, he learned to meditate. Some years later he moved to the USA. Thereafter, and for many years, he taught audio technology at the Institute of Audio Research in New York. Now retired, he has integrated his spiritual and scientific awareness in a book entitled, Science & Spirit Reconciled. It presents a philosophy of unity, harmony and spiritual peace much needed at this time in our scientific and technological evolution. One particular mental characteristic has persisted since his earliest childhood. It is that he felt, and still feels, a powerful need to help save the world from the curse of war. At the age of five, he remembers, he asked his father; "If people are hanged for killing someone, why is it that in war people are not hanged when they kill someone?" His father answered, "Because it is all right to kill in war." This answer didn't satisfy him then, and it never has. As a result, he has lived with a strong compulsion to help outlaw wars in whatever way seems both beneficial and effective. To further this objective, he has recently shown his completed manuscript to a number of like-minded people. As a result, while in the USA, he was asked to give a talk on this subject to a meeting of the Church of Humanism. And, when he recently returned to Britain, he was asked by the Cardiff Unitarian Church, to talk on the subject of his book. He hopes that by his talks and the publication of this book he will help to reduce the time it takes for people to waken from the nightmare of war.
