Whenever I saw a baby with its mother before parenthood I was filled with excitement thinking that one day I might be one of those lucky women, who are blessed with a beautiful, healthy and happy baby. I pictured the joy and happiness that my baby would bring me and all of the rewarding and wonderful times that we would share together and as a family. It did not even occur to me that it might just be one of the hardest things I would have to experience in my life, that one small little baby could make me cry, wear me down, test me and make me so angry that I would want to scream. After all, who ever see's a mother who is not coping? A mother who is crying and is so exhausted and upset that she struggles to get out of bed each day? I didn't know that those mothers existed. My husband Stephen and I were blessed with a beautiful healthy baby boy, Sebastian.... But we were not blessed with a happy baby who gave us joy, happiness and wonderful times in the beginning. Indeed, little Sebastian was a very difficult baby who tested us every day with his high- pitched screaming and unsettledness. Sebastian's scream was piercing and we tried everything we thought possible to settle him, to make things easier for him and also for ourselves. It was the hardest journey of our lives as first time parents and bought with it a roller coaster of emotions. This book is dedicated to all of the parents out there who struggle to cope with a difficult and demanding baby. You are not alone I hope that you can draw some comfort and support from my own experiences with Sebastian and go forward with strength and understanding that parenthood will change you in every way, but for the better.
