Recenzii
Michael Roe
really useful for both academics and policy-makers ... develops a highly valuable set of guiding principles that are clearly useful for the industry and might even be acceptable to the regulators. ... The author's style and organisation of the work is excellent and despite its rather dull sounding topic, it is a thoroughly interesting book to read. ... wholly up to date, beautifully presented, delightfully written, combines theory and practice with ease and clarity and is thoroughly well argued. ... a very welcome addition to the literature. The author is to be congratulated on a text that is long overdue.

Robustly bound with clear and informative tables and figures, and very well referenced, this book of 289 pages offers a logical and detailed examination of current strategic management issues in the liner shipping industry. It is aimed at current managers and regulators operating in the industry...due to the author's reliance on well-recognised economic models as the basis for analysis, it would be accessible to logistics and transport students, or others with an interest in the industry. ...Overall, this academic book is best suited to practitioners in the liner shipping industry, or people with a current interest in it, or a strong interest in developing one. Having read much of Mary Brooks' previous work, I am familiar with her detective-like research and eye for detail - this book does not disappoint.

(the author's)...intention is to put forth a view of liner regulation from a managerial perspective - and she is successful. She also provides, at the end, guidelines for achieving such a regulatory climate...It is clear that Professor Brooks knows the field and perhaps equally important, she has done a very good job in sharing her knowledge...the textual analysis is likely to be of lasting value.

...a tightly packed compendium of the liner shipping industry today. The author...is to be applauded for tackling and organizing the complexities of the subject matter. Brooks concludes her book with 15 policy proposals...the principles are wide ranging....They set an agenda that warrants much discussion. The author is to be complimented for her efforts to point a way, one that will hopefully stimulate the wide-ranging and necessary discussion.

...an excellent resource on the ocean liner industry. It is well written and extremely well documented....would certainly be appropriate in a graduate seminar on transportation or an upper-level undergraduate course on ocean shipping or management of transportation companies.
