Paul Romano once spent most waking hours fantasizing about Liz. More than 15 years later, he needs her again, only as a lifeline back from his broken world. Liz Kramer would forever remember Paul as the Italian Stallion, off limits as her brother's best med school buddy. He was-and maybe still is-four things: fussy about food, smug about his nationality, razor sharp with wit, and wild about women...well, he might have gotten tamed along the way. Oh, and a troubling fifth thing: He's a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and well...Liz would bleed purple if she had to, cheering for her Baltimore Ravens. How's that for clashing loyalties? Yet when Liz's idyllic Chesapeake life takes a plunge, she needs Paul's friendship more than any fantasy. Liz must manage two children and one conniving, estranged husband. Divorce was never in her world picture so it's hard to keep a smile on her face when two exacting bosses, one with eyes on Paul, present daily challenges. Yet she must build her career and earn a living. What's more, Paul's Pittsburgh mother shares her name with a brewing hurricane. Fitting, as both head straight at Liz while someone heaps more hurt onto Steve, jeopardizing his future with Maren. Will Liz ever relax again when she knows she's being fleeced, but can't prove it? And why would Paul want her tales of woes with his newly found pleasure literally chasing tail? Make that plural. See who gets another shot at happiness-and possibly love-with this intertwining story of Second Chances: Book Two of The Maryland Shores novel series. Letting Go: Book One of The Maryland Shores, also by Lauren Monroe, led off this series and was published in 2014. Second Chances, with relationship, family and career themes women will appreciate (from their 30s through their 90s), has a Reading Guide for book club discussions or personal perusal.

Notă biografică

Often mistaken for sisters, Leigh and Victoria (Vikki) consider themselves twins from different mothers. We met on the sidelines of our sons' baseball game and quickly bonded over books, baseball politics, and Mrs. Brown's 'famous chocolate chip cookies'. No surprise to anyone, our decision to write a book also came about over a pizza dinner and we've been sharing a love for writing and eating ever since. Second Chances is a story about getting a new lease on life, new beginnings, and that's exactly what it is for us. Following long careers in public relations (Vikki) and finance/interior design (Leigh), and with sons about to trade in the home nest for college dorms, we were both ready to chart a new course for ourselves. The decision to write a book was a natural choice for both of us. Vikki's career-based writing skills paired with Leigh's innate story-telling talents have enabled us to create fiction and produce a book we hope brings you loads of reading pleasure. We're often asked, 'but how do you write a book together?'. Please refer to paragraph one: we're twins from different mothers, literally and figuratively. We think in the same twisted way and share the same crazy ideas as well as the same hair stylist and esthetician. Our relationship is unique not only in the way we synch but also the way we balance, push, and motivate each other. This is our first literary collaboration but not our last. We're excited to announce that our second novel, The Pie Sisters set in New York's Finger Lakes region, is slated for release in 2014. When we're not doing site research, we're writing at home in Rhode Island where we live with our husbands and sons.
