Dr. Ken Byrne has been in full-time independent practice as a corporate psychologist since 1979. His clients have ranged from large multinationals to small businesses. Over the last forty years, he has personally evaluated more than three thousand job applicants ranging from candidates for CEO and other senior executive roles, middle management, technical roles and entry level staff. In the mid-1980s, Dr. Byrne became interested in the selection challenges faced by public safety groups, such as police, fire brigades, ambulance, corrective services, and other similar organizations. This led to his developing a personality questionnaire designed specifically for public safety applicants. This allowed clients to screen large groups of people and then to use an empirically derived formula to rate the level of risk each applicant posed. Candidates the agency decided to advance to interview were further screened with a highly specialized series of interview tools. In about 2005, Dr. Byrne became interested in the screening of people to work in aged care and disability services. This led him to develop a brief personality screening test and interview guides for applicants to these critical roles. Dr. Byrne has also headed several research studies to validate and norm each of these specialized screening tools. This resulted in publication of numerous long-term follow-up studies of people 112 DR. K E N BY RNE who had been screened, comparing them to groups hired without this specialized assessment. His experience and expertise in evaluating candidates has led to him being indirectly involved in hiring decisions of thousands of other people is in the broad public safety area. Dr. Byrne completed Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Clinical Psychology and earned a Doctor of Psychology degree from Hahnemann Medical College in Philadelphia. He started in corporate psychology with the Hay Group in their Philadelphia head office before beginning his private consulting practice. Dr. Byrne is well known for his lively, entertaining and informative talks and training seminars.
