Notă biografică
Serge Valcourt was born in Limbe, Haiti of Haitian parents. His family migrated to the United States when he was a child and they settled in Brooklyn, New York where he attended elementary, high school and college. In college he majored in elementary education at the undergraduate and graduate levels and was an educator in the New York City elementary public - school system for over 30 years prior to his retirement. Serge Valcourt is a gifted and talented poet who is able to display his poetic flair and linguistic versatility in his voluminous flow of French, English and Haitian Creole poems. His imagination and creativity are displayed in his spontaneous overflow of words, which embrace a variety of poetic forms and topics. His works include stylistic poetic forms such as epic, elegy, romanticism, acrostic, ballad, blank verse, burlesque, dramatic monologue, sonnets and rhyme. His themes cover a wide variety of topics including nature, spirituality, history, romance, marriage, family, birthday, heroes, racism, oppression, death and dying. Serge Valcourt's poetry was inspired by the works of the Psalmist David, Maya Angelu, Langston Hughes and Paul Lawrence Dunbar.
