Seventeenth Century Life in the Country Parish: With Special Reference to Local Government

Autor Eleanor Trotter
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 16 apr 2014
Originally published in 1919, this book constitutes an attempt to show how the ordinary business of local government was maintained during the seventeenth century, taking into account the social and political upheaval created by the Civil War and its aftermath. Although it focuses mainly on the North Riding of Yorkshire, the observations made in the text are presented as broadly reflective of circumstances in other areas of the country. A bibliography and map of the North Riding region are also included, together with extensive notes. This book will be of value to anyone with an interest in the development of local government, British history and early modern history.
