Twenty-four years ago when I was in the Air Force and on a military base in Qatar during Operation Friction, I wrote a short story that went viral at our camp in the desert populated with about four hundred men and twelve women. It had been a request from a fellow soldier. Being surrounded by men, he asked for something sexy he could read and if I would write it. At the time, we were at work waiting for the aircraft to come back from their mission, so I sat down under the camouflage netting erected to shield us slightly from the hot desert sun, and took pen to paper in an attempt to deliver on Georges's request. The second Officer, who was actually from the squadron I worked for back in Germany, approached me in similar fashion to the first, and this time I swore I was in trouble. This guy was clean, straight, and by the book. Same panic, same outcome - I walked away from this encounter with another request for a personal story accompanied by the addition of him having accused me of playing preferences between Officers. Twenty-four years later it was happening again. I happened to mention to a guy at work how I had done what I just described above and he requested a story of his own. I let another guy read it and he requested one of his own. A few months later, he passed it to a woman at work and now I have written a story for her and another one for her friend. It turns out that people want to read about their sexual fantasy. People enjoy reading my stories. They have descriptive, relatable characters with enough plot and anticipation to entice the reader and keep them wanting more.
