Khairudin Aljunied provides an engaging and insightful analysis of a diverse group of Muslim voices who were major catalysts for a reformist movement that emphasizes a cosmopolitan approach to Islamic and Southeast Asian studies." -John L. Esposito, University Professor, Georgetown University
This is an excellent book. Khairudin Aljunied presents a highly sophisticated analysis of the intellectual contributions of seven Muslim scholars from Southeast Asia, whose works collectively establish the richness of Islamic reformist thought and Islam's ability to navigate between extreme-conservative and secularist ideals. A must-read for all those interested in understanding the deeper conceptual debates about Islam and modernity." -Masooda Bano, Professor of Development Studies, University of Oxford
