This is a walks book with a difference, with a story at every step. And Roly Smith, one of our most experienced and knowledgeable outdoor writers, is the perfect guide to lead you to some of the most fascinating and interesting corners of Britain. I plan to use it myself on my frequent travels around our lovely country.
Why go abroad when there is so much to discover in Great Britain, as revealed in Roly's fascinating book? This is not just another walks guide - it is 50 adventures in places you may never have thought about.
As someone who loves walking, British landscape and history, and all things eerie, strange and 'hauntological' with a good dash of folk horror, I adored this book. Brilliant and absorbing, either out in 'the field' or in the armchair. Fabulous.
From the bird-haunted cliffs of Skomer to the perfect glacial valley of High Cup, spectacular house ruins in Leicestershire's Bradgate Park and the ancient mossy rocks and trees of Wistman's Wood on Dartmoor, these islands are packed with intriguing, out-of-the-way treasures. This valuable guidebook of easily manageable walks, put together by the vastly experienced Roly Smith, whets your appetite and points you in the right direction.
